Welcome to the Military Academy.
This page aims to provide information about this Public Military University Higher Education Establishment, an institution that, since 1790, has been preparing future Officers for the Army and, since 1990, for the Republican National Guard (GNR).
The training provided at this Academy has continually evolved, following and adapting to the changing dynamics and the challenging circumstances in which command of military and security forces is at all times exercised, whilst maintaining the essential components unchanged – scientific training in the areas inherent to the different specializations, development of ethical and behavioural character, and military and physical programmes – structuring elements of leadership skills, necessary to know how to adapt the exercise of command to the traits and demands of each mission. Officers who complete their training at the Military Academy are ready to Command, aware of how to act and decide in situations of adversity, complexity, volatility and uncertainty, as this is the main feature of the environment in which the Army's and GNR’s missions are carried out.
We are a school of knowledge, in the area of military sciences, which we seek to improve and develop, relying on highly capable faculty and staff, adopting the best research practices and benefiting from modern laboratory equipment.
Making internationalization one of our paramount pillars, we offer students the possibility of attending modules in similar international schools and, as a promotion of scientific research, we take part in international cooperation projects, within the scope of military higher education, in cooperation with other Military Academies from allies and friendly countries, within the purview of Military Erasmus, engaging learners and instructors.
We are an institution open to society, that participates in social and cultural programmes in the geographical areas of Lisbon and Amadora, where our facilities are located, cooperating closely with both municipal entities, ever since proudly in honour of Portugal!
